About Course

The Weekend Intensives are usually a set of two long-duration sessions, conducted over two consecutive days. While each Weekend has a clear focus, the two sessions together touch upon a wide range of asanas and positions, including quiet breath work in the second half of the second day.

Part 1: Beginning with standing asanas, this session prepares the body by introducing the basic concepts of twists in standing positions, and seated positions using a chair

Part2: Introduces concepts of ‘open’ and ‘closed’ twists, also twists in supine and inverted positions.

What Will You Learn?

  • The Weekend Intensives are usually a set of two long-duration sessions, conducted over two consecutive days. While each Weekend has a clear focus, the two sessions together touch upon a wide range of asanas and positions, including quiet breath work in the second half of the second day.  In general, the first day has preparatory actions and standing asanas (because standing asanas are the foundations for pretty much all categories of asanas).  The second day reinforces what was learnt on first day, and builds up from it. Even beginner level practitioners may attempt the first day - though they might find the classes a little challenging, the second day is meant for the intermediate level practitioner.
  • Twisting actions can go all the way from relatively 'gentle stretching', to fairly intense squeezing actions. They are a boon in maintaining digestive health, as well as in keeping the spine supple and mobile.  In addition, twists are complementary to various categories of asanas including forward extensions, back arches, balancings and inversions.
  • Note:
  • Twisting actions can be done all along the length of the back (the spine).   Some twists involve strong abdominal action, and are therefore not suitable in case of any abdominal tenderness, surgery etc. and for women during menstruation.
