Description

A beginner level Asana, but one that might take a while to master.  Virabhadrasana1 is a standing Asana.  It has components of forward and backward extension, and even twists.  It requires collaborative effort of arms, legs, shoulders, back and hips.  If any of these parts are not performing optimally, it shows up in the Asana most commonly as strain on the knees, back or shoulders.

The firming of the legs, the sensitisation of the side flanks achieved in Virabhadrasana1, all of these lead towards the more advanced positions.  We explore some of these positions in this session.  But Asana practice is an endlessly exciting process of going back and forth. And we might have used some of these very Asanas, to prepare us for Virabhadrasana1
