Next time you attempt arching back (not necessarily in a asana, but even a causal standing back arch, place a palm on your abdomen. you will likely notice that the abdomen becomes hard. this is not desirable. In an asana, definitely hardening and bloating of the abdominal area is not a desirable condition, but even physiologically, a hard abdomen can cause many kinds of disturbances. But keeping the abdomen soft while arching back is definitely a challenge. this session attempts to do this through a series of gentle actions that activates the deeper abdominal muscles, and connects the abdomen to the limbs (the arms and the legs). The session ends with supported back arches.
