This is the second part on the introductory lecture/ exercise/ experience on experiencing the breath in the body. This is not a medical lecture, but an attempt to explain the subjective experience of breath in the context of asana and pranayama, in the two major regions of the body: the chest, and the abdomen. We do however, observe the correlation of our physiology – the ribs, the breastbone, the diaphragm – with our experience. The session introduces one of the most common positions in which pranayama preparation is introduced in our tradition: a supine position with a support for the chest.
